Materialising in Three (days)

Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor was mostly occupied not in travelling the galaxy, but in defending earth from the dangers that would come to visit it, like a cosmic Home Guard standing firm against a host of threats from “abroad.” In this he would work with the forces of the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (UNIT) under the command of brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (Nicholas Courtney), a man whose military thinking exasperated the Doctor but whose access to weaponry often came in useful in a crisis and whose reserves of available personnel meant that there were always soldiers on hand to be killed by invading aliens.
